Necrobinder Soul Cycle Build — Binding & Sacrifice Engine Guide

The Soul Cycle is the Necrobinder’s most reliable build and the ideal entry point for learning the character. It focuses on a simple Loop: generate souls by killing enemies and sacrificing minions, then spend those souls on Binding cards for explosive payoffs. It teaches the soul economy — the Necrobinder’s core resource management skill — without requiring the curse tolerance of Curse Weaver or the fight prediction of Minion Master. Souls persist between combats within the same floor, which means every fight starts with resources from the previous fight. Mastering this carry-over is the key to the build.
Build Overview
The Soul Cycle is a resource engine: Soul Drain and Spirit Leech generate souls from kills and direct damage. Minion Sacrifice provides on-demand soul Bursts. Binding cards convert accumulated souls into damage (Soul Eruption), block + draw (Unbound Spirit), or other effects. The core Loop: generate → store → spend → rebuild. At 3 souls (base cap), a Soul Eruption deals 30 AoE damage. At 5 souls (with Soul Catalyst), that jumps to 50 — one-shotting most Act 2 hallway fights. At 8 souls (with Soul Catalyst + Soul Hoarder), a Soul Eruption deals 80 AoE and kills bosses in one turn.

Core Cards
Strategy
Accumulate souls in the first 2-3 turns using Soul Drain kills and Spirit Leech. Summon a Bone Golem as your sacrifice anchor — it soaks damage AND generates 2 souls when it dies. At 4+ souls, unload with Soul Eruption (deal 10×souls damage) or Unbound Spirit (spend all souls: gain block and draw per soul spent). Rebuild souls immediately through sacrifice or kill. Against bosses, bank souls during phase 1, then dump 8+ souls in phase 2 for a one-turn kill.
Core Cards — The Soul Economy
S-Tier: Soul Generators
Soul Drain (Starter Skill, 1 energy) — Deal 8 damage (12 upgraded). If the enemy dies, gain 1 Soul (2 upgraded). Your starting soul generator. This is in your starting deck and it teaches the Necrobinder’s fundamental skill: last-hitting. Every fight, your goal is to kill at least one enemy with Soul Drain. Souls carry between fights on the same floor — you can enter the elite fight with 3 souls already banked. Upgrade this FIRST: 1→2 souls per kill doubles your generation rate.
The most important skill: Learn enemy HP Breakpoints. Jaw Worm has 42-46 HP. After 2 Strikes (12 damage) + 2 turns of chip, Soul Drain at 8 damage should finish it. Practice last-hitting — it’s the difference between entering the next fight with 0 souls vs. 2 souls.
Spirit Leech (Common Skill, 1 energy) — Deal 6 damage, gain 1 Soul (8 damage + 2 Souls upgraded). More reliable than Soul Drain because it doesn’t require a kill. Essential in boss fights where minions aren’t available. In hallway fights, use Spirit Leech early to generate souls, then Soul Drain for the kill. Two Spirit Leeches = 2 guaranteed souls per deck cycle even without kills. Upgrade after Soul Drain.
Math: Spirit Leech+ (2 souls) + Soul Drain+ (2 souls per kill) = 4 souls in one fight. At 3-soul cap (base), that’s overkill unless you spend mid-fight. At 5-soul cap (Soul Catalyst), that’s almost full bank from one fight.
Bone Golem (Uncommon Minion, 2 energy) — Summon a Bone Golem: 10 HP, blocks 4/turn. DeathRattle: gain 2 Souls. This is the Sacrifice Anchor. It generates value while alive (blocking 4/turn, which adds up to 16+ block over its lifetime), then generates 2 souls when it dies. Sacrifice it at 2-3 HP for maximum efficiency — the deathRattle (2 souls) + Sacrifice soul gain (1-2 souls) = 3-4 souls in one turn. This is your soul battery.
Pick priority: Take on sight in Act 1. The 2 energy cost is heavy early, but 10 HP + 4 block/turn carries hallway fights. The 2 souls on death smooths your soul economy for the rest of the floor.
A-Tier: Binding Payoffs
Soul Eruption (Uncommon Binding, 1 energy) — Spend ALL souls. Deal 10 damage per soul to ALL enemies. At 3 souls: 30 AoE. At 5 souls (Soul Catalyst): 50 AoE. At 8 souls (Soul Catalyst + Soul Hoarder): 80 AoE. This is the Finisher. It kills hallway fights instantly and takes enormous chunks out of bosses. The tension of the Soul Cycle is deciding when to spend souls — Unbound Spirit (defense) vs. Soul Eruption (offense) is the core skill check of the deck.
Critical decision: Don’t Soul Eruption at 1 soul (10 AoE). Wait for 3+ souls (30+ AoE). The damage-per-soul is linear, but the Breakpoints matter: 30 kills most Act 1 enemies, 50 kills Act 2, 80 kills Act 3 hallways. Know your Breakpoints.
Unbound Spirit (Uncommon Binding, 1 energy) — Spend ALL souls. Gain 5 block (7 upgraded) and draw 1 card per soul. At 3 souls: 15 block + draw 3 = incredible. At 5 souls: 25 block + draw 5. This is the conversion valve: too many souls and no Soul Eruption in hand? Unbound Spirit turns them into survivability and card velocity to find your payoff. At 5 souls, you draw 5 cards and block 35 — that’s a full hand refill and a turn of immunity.
Upgrade priority: +2 block per soul. At 5 souls, that’s 10 extra block. Worth it.
Soul Shield (Rare Binding, 2 energy) — Spend ALL souls. Gain 12 block per soul. At 3 souls: 36 block. At 5 souls: 60 block. At 8 souls: 96 block. This is the defensive nuclear option. Overkill in most hallway fights but essential against the Heart’s turn-3 67-damage nuke. With 5+ souls banked, Soul Shield is “skip one turn of damage entirely.”
Pick priority: Take 1 copy in Act 3 for boss gauntlet. Not needed before Act 3.
B-Tier: Support and Draw
Dark Pact (Uncommon Skill, 1 energy) — Draw 3 cards, add a Binding Curse to your discard pile. Binding Curses are Ethereal (exhaust at end of turn) and deal 3 damage when drawn. Draw 3 for 1 energy is absurd efficiency. The Binding Curse downside is negligible — it exhausts itself, so it doesn’t clog your deck. With Dark Grimoire relic, the first Curse drawn each turn also draws 1 card, turning the “downside” into +1 card advantage.
Pick priority: Take 1-2 copies starting Act 2. Your deck is thick enough to benefit. Avoid in Act 1 — the 3 HP self-damage from the Binding Curse matters more when your max HP is low.
Bone Barrier (Common Skill, 1 energy) — Gain 8 block. Summon a Bone Fragment minion: 3 HP, blocks 2/turn, deathRattle: gain 1 Soul. Block + soul generation in one card. The Bone Fragment is fragile but disposable — it’ll die in 1-2 hits, giving you a free soul.
Soul Link (Common Skill, 1 energy) — Target minion: when it dies this turn, gain 3 Souls instead of the normal deathRattle. Use on a Bone Fragment about to die. 1 energy for 3 souls is the best soul-to-energy ratio in the game. Combos with Sacrifice effects.
Detailed Act-by-Act Strategy
Act 1 — Learn to Last-Hit
The Necrobinder starts with Soul Drain, 2 minions (Flesh Offering: 5 HP, 3 damage/turn), Strikes, and Defends. Your starting minions carry early fights — they deal 6 damage/turn combined and die easily, giving souls. Use them aggressively. Let them die. The souls are worth more than the minion.
Floor 1-5: Master the Soul Economy
Your first 5 floors are about learning Breakpoints. Every enemy has an HP threshold where Soul Drain kills. Learn them.
Card pick priority:
- Spirit Leech — Always take. Guaranteed soul generation without needing a kill.
- Bone Golem — Always take. Tank + soul battery. Best uncommon for the deck.
- Bone Barrier — Block + minion + soul. Efficient at everything.
- Soul Link — 3 souls for 1 energy with Sacrifice synergy. Take 1 copy.
- Graveblast — Deal 10 damage, if target dies gain 2 Souls. Alternative to Soul Drain that hits harder.
Do NOT take early: Dark Pact (3 self-damage matters when max HP is low), Curse cards (no synergy yet), expensive Binding payoffs without soul generation.
Floor 6-10: Add Soul Spenders
By now you’re consistently generating 2-3 souls per fight. You need ways to spend them:
- Soul Eruption — Priority #1. Your Finisher.
- Unbound Spirit — Priority #2. Converts excess souls into block + draw.
- Soul Catalyst (relic) — Increases soul cap from 3→5. Doubles Burst potential.
Elite Strategy (Act 1)
- Sentries (Favorable): 3 enemies = 3 kill opportunities = 3-6 souls. Soul Drain each one as it dies. Bone Golem Tanks while you block. Soul Eruption at 3 souls cleans up. Take <10 damage.
- Lagavulin (Medium): Sleep phase = deploy Bone Golem, Spirit Leech for souls. After waking, Soul Eruption at 3 souls deals 30 damage. Soul Drain the kill for 2 more souls. Enter next fight with 2 souls banked. Expect 15-20 damage.
- Gremlin Nob (DAngerous): Skills are your whole deck. Soul Drain, Spirit Leech — all Skills. Nob gains 2 Strength per Skill. This is a BAD matchup. Fight only if you have 3+ attacks. Soul Eruption early — kill in 3 turns or die.
Rule of thumb: Path to 1-2 elites. Necrobinder’s starting minions + Soul Drain generate enough souls that elites are manageable. Avoid Gremlin Nob unless you have attack cards.
Campfire Priority (Act 1)
- Upgrade Soul Drain — #1 priority. 1→2 souls per kill. Doubles generation.
- Upgrade Spirit Leech — 1→2 souls per play. Consistency.
- Upgrade Soul Eruption — More damage per soul.
- Rest if HP < 25.
Boss Preparation (Act 1)
- Hexaghost (Favorable): Deploy Bone Golem. Spirit Leech generates souls without kills. Soul Eruption when Inferno is charging. Soul Drain the kill if possible. Bank souls between phases.
- Slime Boss (Favorable): Soul Drain each split slime for 3-6 souls. Soul Eruption at 3+ souls to clear the board. More splits = more souls = more Soul Eruptions.
- Guardian (Medium): Thorn form punishes attacks. Soul Drain and Spirit Leech are Skills — they don’t trigger Thorns. Generate souls freely. Soul Eruption during defensive turns.
Act 2 — Binding Payoffs
Act 2 is where the soul engine becomes a killing machine. You have 2-3 soul generators and at least one Binding payoff. Soul banking between fights becomes critical.
Early Act 2: Binding Payoff Acquisition
Card picks:
- Soul Eruption (if missing) — Essential. Hunt at shops.
- Unbound Spirit (if missing) — The safety valve. Without it, excess souls are wasted.
- Dark Pact — Now safe to take. Draw 3 for 1 energy + manageable downside.
- Soul Catalyst (relic) — Increases cap to 5. Doubles Burst.
Mid Act 2: Refine the Engine
- Add a second Bone Golem. With 2 Bone Golems, you can cycle them: deploy #1, Sacrifice #1 at 2-3 HP for souls, deploy #2. The soul flow is continuous.
- Soul Link + Bone Fragment = 3 souls for 1 energy. Efficient but requires timing.
- Remove Strikes at shops. Your damage comes from souls, not basic attacks.
Elite Strategy (Act 2)
- Tri-Slavers (Favorable): 3 enemies = 3 kills = 3-6 souls. Bone Golem Tanks. Soul Eruption at 4 souls kills all 3 simultaneously.
- Book of Stabbing (Hard): Bone Golem dies fast to multi-hits. Soul Eruption at 3 souls, then redeploy. Use Unbound Spirit for emergency block.
- Gremlin Leader (Favorable): Minions die and give souls. Soul Eruption kills minions + damages Leader simultaneously. With Death’s Toll relic, every minion death = +1 soul. This fight Feeds your engine.
Campfire Priority (Act 2)
- Upgrade Unbound Spirit — +2 block/soul
- Upgrade Soul Eruption
- Upgrade Dark Pact (reduce self-damage)
Act 2 Boss Prep
- The Champ (Favorable): Phase 1 = bank souls. Soul Drain everything. Enter phase 2 with 3+ souls. Soul Eruption turn 1 of phase 2 for 30-50 damage. Rebuild souls. Soul Eruption again.
- Bronze Automaton (Hard): Hyper Beam kills your Bone Golem. Have backup souls saved. Soul Eruption after Hyper Beam (when he’s vulnerable). Rebuild through Spirit Leech.
- Collector (Favorable): Minions = soul farm. Soul Eruption kills minions + Collector together. Death’s Toll triggers constantly.
Act 3 — Soul Banking Mastery
By Act 3, your deck: 2-3 soul generators (Soul Drain+, Spirit Leech+), 1-2 Sacrifice Anchors (Bone Golem), both Soul Eruption and Unbound Spirit, Dark Pact for draw. Soul Catalyst relic if lucky (5 cap).
The game becomes about soul banking: enter every fight with souls from the previous kill. This means hallway fights start with 3-5 souls already banked. Turn 1: Soul Eruption for 30-50 AoE. Fight over.
Card picks for Act 3:
- Soul Shield — Defensive Binding. For Heart/boss gauntlet.
- Necromantic Surge — Gain 2 Souls, Exhaust. 0 energy, free souls. Take 1 copy.
- Soul Hoarder (relic) — Soul cap +2 (5→7). 70-damage Soul Eruptions.
Final Boss Strategy
- Time Eater (Medium): Soul generation + spending = many cards. 12-card limit. Make each card count: each Soul Drain must kill. Each Soul Eruption at 5+ souls. Unbound Spirit for block + draw without spending more cards.
- Awakened One (Favorable): Cultists in phase 1 give souls. Soul Eruption clears cultists. Bank 5+ souls for phase 2. Soul Eruption turn 1 of phase 2 = 50 damage.
- Donu & Deca (Favorable): Soul Eruption hits both. Soul Drain each as they die. Soul Shield for the Survivor’s buffed attacks.
Act 4 — The Heart
The Heart is the Soul Cycle’s ultimate test. Beat of Death (2 damage per card) punishes multi-card turns. Soul Eruption and Unbound Spirit spend souls — but they count as card plays. Soul Shield on turn 3 (67 nuke). Bank 8 souls before the fight. Soul Eruption (80 AoE) → rebuild through Spirit Leech → Soul Eruption again. 800 damage in 8-10 Soul Eruptions.
Relic Priority
Run-Defining
- Soul Catalyst: Soul cap 3→5. Doubles Burst. 50-damage Soul Eruption vs 30. Take over everything.
- Sacrificial Dagger: Sacrificing minion deals 8 AoE AND generates souls. Bone Golem Sacrifice = 2 souls + 8 AoE. Efficient violence.
- Death’s Toll: Any character death (ally or enemy) = +1 Soul. Multi-enemy fights = soul factories.
- Soul Hoarder: Soul cap +2 (5→7 or 7→9). Can’t be found in Act 1. Boss relic tier.
High Impact
- Dark Grimoire: First Curse drawn each turn also draws 1 card. Dark Pact’s Binding Curse becomes card advantage. With 3+ Curses in deck, draws 3+ extra cards per fight.
- Bone Amulet: Minions have +5 max HP. Bone Golem 10→15 HP. Survives extra attack. More block before Sacrifice.
- Spirit Stone: Start each combat with 1 Soul. Free soul every fight. Simple, effective.
Nice to Have
- Sacrificial Altar: Sacrifice costs 0 energy once per combat.
- Soul Vessel: When you would die, consume all souls to survive with 1 HP per soul. Emergency button.
- Funerary Mask: Gain 1 Soul when you take unblocked damage. Turns damage into resources.
Matchup Guide
Bosses You Crush
Sentries: 3 kills = 3-6 souls. Soul Eruption clears. Slime Boss: More splits = more souls = more eruptions. Collector: Minion farm = infinite souls.
Bosses That Test You
Gremlin Nob: Skills trigger Strength gain. Rush kill with Soul Eruption at 3 souls. Time Eater: 12-card limit. Make each Soul Eruption count at 5+ souls. Corrupted Heart: Beat of Death. Soul Shield for turn 3. 8+ Soul Eruptions for 800 damage.
Alternative Cards
Soul Harvest: Deal 15 damage. If 3+ souls, gain 3 more. Snowball card — bad at 0-2 souls, game-winning at 4+.
Reap: Deal 3 AoE. If any die, gain 1 Soul each. Hallway fight engine. Bad against bosses.
Soul InFusion: Target minion deals +5 damage this turn, gains 1 Soul on death. Pairs with Bone Golem for soul-on-demand.
Necromantic Surge: Gain 2 Souls, Exhaust. 0 energy. Take 1 copy in Act 3 for consistency.
Cards to AVOID
- Malediction: Curse-payoff card. Soul Cycle doesn’t stack enough Curses.
- Cursed Blade: Adds Curse without payoff. Different archetype (Curse Weaver).
- Wraith Form: Summons 3 minions that die in 2 turns. Slot-inefficient without Minion Master.
